The signature feature within the space if a full scale replica of a fuselage that is reminiscent of the golden area of aviation when planes like the Douglas DC-7 and Lockheed Constellation were transforming the world of air travel. The fuselage is complete in every detail from the perforations in the steel frame, scale windows, and bench style seating which take on the contemporary feel of the era.

Barquentine Brewery

bark·en·tine /ˈbärkənˌtēn/ noun : a sailing ship similar to a bark but square-rigged only on the foremast.

brew·er·y /ˈbro͞o(ə)rē/ noun: a place where beer is made commercially.

Barquentine Brewing Company is the anchor Tenant on the north side of the Edgewater Public Market. A barquentine is a style of sailing ship dating back to the early 1900’s and the interior space is reminiscent of the aesthetic found in those vessels. The centerpiece of the space is a heavy timber trellis that alludes to the materials and framing methods of an early barquentine. The trellis, lighting, exposed conduit and creative detailing focuses attention on the bar to complete this space and draw attention to the tap wall serving Belgian style ales.

Stella's on 16th

Year Completed: 2017

General Contractor: Foothills Commercial Builders

"A PLENTIFUL CULINARY MARKET IN THE HEART OF DENVER"

Stella's on 16th is a distinct restaurant concept in the heart of Denver's Union Station District.  Stella's serves Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and is also a source for quick grab-and-go meals and snacks as well as made-to-order smoothies and coffee drinks.

The unique nature of the program along with the idiosyncratic nature of a triangular shaped building created interesting design challenges that ultimately resulted in a vibrant and very functional marketplace and restaurant

Izakaya Den

Year of Completion: 2007

General Contractor: Hyder Construction

The owner of Denver’s popular Sushi Den restaurant tapped Kenney Architects to design his second restaurant in Denver, the original Izakaya Den.  The 10,000 square foot restaurant included a full dining area, bar, private dining room, mezzanine level, and indoor/outdoor patio.  Careful consideration of its exterior facade via scale and materials was of particular importance in order to complement the existing pedestrian friendly character of the South Pearl Street neighborhood.

The Infinite Monkey Theorem Urban Winery

Infinite Monkey Theorem, is a 13,325 square foot urban winery in the heart of Denver.  The winery is transforming its formerly utilitarian space to reflect its creative personality and add to the exterior social presence of the growing local neighborhood. The building’s simple urban-edge exterior will transition to a warm and inviting interior. The space, which was used to serve a purely industrial function, is being designed to serve as a flexible community gathering place. After hours, the bottling facility—with its new wine garden and 1,173 square foot rooftop garden—is available for events and parties.

Machete Tequila & Tacos

Year of Completion: 2014

General Contractor: Far North Development

Carrying on the success of Machete Tequila & Tacos in Denver’s Cherry Creek, the owner purchased the space formerly used by Zydeco’s and Trios Enoteca across from the newly renovated Union Station.  RLC Design and Kenney Architects teamed up to create design drawings that would salvage and adapt the existing bar and kitchen for Machete’s food and drink menu.  We also created a room catering to private parties and special events.  Furniture and lighting were kept simple to highlight the notable Machete Dios Los Muertos furnishings and décor.

Designed in conjunction with RLC Design.

After gaining traction with their great beer brewing out of their garage, the Christofferson cousins elected to expand their operations to a licensed nanobrewery.  Kenney Architects was given the opportunity to assist them with their renovation of a former auto body shop in west Denver into the new brewing facility and tasting room.  The simple floor plan allows for the tasting customers to observe the brewing hardware, while the large and frequently open garage doors allow for easy indoor/outdoor neighborhood socialization.
